This type of nutrition counseling is perfect for helping you feel your best. The counseling isn’t weight centric, in fact, I hope we can get rid of your scale.
The most successful clients come to peace first with food and then find their body’s natural weight. This will feel pretty uncomfortable, maybe even scary at first, especially if you have been a chronic dieter. Once we get to a place of trusting your eating and your body’s cues, we will find your body’s natural maintainable weight.

Let's first look at how these are the same. They both look at being present in your eating and view eating as non-judgemental. This is the opposite of the distracted eating that is often a norm in our ‘busy is better’ society.
Intuitive Eating takes it one step further by rejecting diet culture and teaching clients to bring greater awareness to their hunger and fullness. There are now hundreds of studies on the benefits of Intuitive Eating. It has been shown to lower the rate of disordered eating, restricted eating, body image concerns and psychological distress.
Not only does it decrease things- it improves body image, social support, satisfaction and your quality of life.

If you have a severe Eating Disorder it may be advised that you work with a specialized team and/or treatment center. If we reach this decision together, I am more than happy to help you find the help you need.
This type of nutrition therapy is ideal for chronic dieters or patients with a history of an eating disorder where intensive treatment was obtained and maintained.

Nutrition therapy is very individualized. It would not be worth either of our time to start an initial consultation without the expectation of putting in additional meetings to make progress. It would not be unreasonable to expect six months of therapy.
There are many factors that impact a client's needs including their medical history, how long they have been dieting, how easy or how hard the steps are in the process and how frequently they are able to check in with me. I will compassionately guide you and hold you accountable during this process.

Yes! I am a dietitian so believe me I understand the amazing role nutrition plays in the body. We will initially focus more on becoming in tune with our bodies, then pull in some gentle nutrition. Our amazing bodies have a way of knowing just what nutrients we need when we listen to our bodies!
Participants in studies have demonstrated lower symptoms of metabolic syndrome. They have lower insulin rates, lower rates of diabetes and have a similar or lower BMI level. This is all without being on a prescription diet.

The good news is that more insurances now accept medical nutrition therapy codes! This is often the case even if you don’t have an actual diagnosis but it is for preventative care.
I accept Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC both Commercial and SHP and Aetna.
If your visit is considered out of network a Superbill can be provided to self submit. A Superbill is an itemized receipt that includes my provider information so you can submit to insurance yourself for reimbursement.
If you want to check with your insurance on your specific policy coverage, start by calling the 800 number on the back of your insurance card. Provide them with the CPT code 97802 and 97803. If they don’t provide coverage for those nutrition codes THEN try 99401, 99402, 99403, and 99404 for your policy. It may also be worth asking if you have a visit limit.

As of January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers are required to provide estimates for the cost of your care. You are entitled to receive a copy of your Good Faith Estimate (GFE) when you schedule an appointment and/or upon request. The GFE shows the cost of services that are reasonably expected for your healthcare needs and treatment if insurance is not used or does not cover the service. This protects you from balance billing and other unexpected charges.
The Intuitive Dietitian will provide you a GFE upon request. Please note that this GFE does not include unexpected costs that could arise during treatment, including cancellation, additional lab requests or no-show fees.
What is the estimate? Do I owe this amount?
This law requires healthcare providers to supply you with an estimate of the costs for your nutrition services at The Intuitive Dietitian. While it is not possible for the dietitian to know, in advance, how many sessions may be necessary and appropriate for a given person, this document provides an estimate of the cost of services provided. Your total cost of services will depend upon the number and length of sessions you attend, as well as your individual circumstances.
The Intuitive Dietitian will provide an estimate of costs upon scheduling and/or as requested. Unexpected costs may include fees for outside referrals, cancellation and/or no-show fees and lab work.
